To the Moon is a celebration of the historic Apollo 11 mission, following the journey from launch to Neil Armstrong’s iconic first steps on the lunar surface. The show opens with JFK’s famous “We choose to go to the moon” speech and blends Bruno Mars’s “Talking to the Moon” and David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” to depict countdown and lift-off. A serene ballad featuring Debussy’s Clair de Lune and Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata captures the calm of space flight, leading into a jazzy shift with Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon,” showcasing a small jazz combo and optional trumpet solo. The final segment uses Richard Strauss’s Also Sprach Zarathustra to highlight the moon’s grandeur, culminating in Armstrong’s quote, a symbolic flag planting, and a powerful arrangement of “America the Beautiful” to end on a patriotic note.
