The Power of 3 explores the enigma and allure of the number three, using a wide variety of three-note motifs and triple-meter phrases to create compelling musical and visual effects. The show opens with a bold statement of Ravel’s Bolero, followed by a woodwind feature built on Verdi’s La Forza del Destino, and transitions into the iconic opening of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. The ballad section features Scarborough Fair and Greensleeves, reinforcing the three-beat concept with a more lyrical tone. The final movement brings high energy with a blend of Carol of the Bells and Saint-Saëns’ Danse Macabre, capped off by a triumphant quote from Rossini’s William Tell Overture. Adapted from the popular marching band show of the same name, this version is tailored to fit the time and instrumentation requirements of the indoor winds arena, replacing the battery with drum set for a more balanced and effective performance.
