Show Synopsis
Pas de Deux—the ballet term for a dance for two—explores two sides of a single soul through separation, discovery, and connection. Set against a musical landscape weaving together Swan Lake, the “Flower Duet,” Son Lux’s “Lost It to Trying,” and NF’s “GONE,” the production begins with two worlds divided by a physical barrier, moving in elegant symmetry yet seemingly unaware of one another. Mirrored choreography and musical duets gradually reveal a connection across the divide, as performers begin to sense, question, and ultimately challenge the boundary keeping them apart.
As the barrier begins to bend and eventually falls, the production erupts into motion. Performers cross into each other’s worlds, musical voices intertwine, and isolated duets grow into exhilarating moments of full-ensemble unity. What was once divided becomes inseparable before the intensity gives way to a transformed reprise of the opening imagery. Now paired together, the performers rediscover the gestures and music from the beginning—not as distant reflections, but as partners. Pas de Deux is ultimately a story of discovering that two opposing voices can struggle, connect, and transform into something more powerful together.
