Over the Top is a wild, comedic celebration of absurdity, where classical elegance collides with outrageous showmanship in a hilariously unpredictable ride. The show opens with a refined rendition of Bach’s Minuet in G, only to be crashed by a group of flamboyant snare drummers who unleash an aggressive solo that turns the piece upside down with electronics and high-energy ensemble playing. Next, the tenors and marimbas engage in a battle of showy flair in a hip-hop styled Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy by Tchaikovsky, complete with shared ramps and four-armed tenor antics. The momentum builds with a chaotic rendition of Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2, where bass drums perform stick tosses and sprint through a “firedrill” routine. The finale amps everything up as the snare line returns with theatrical tricks, the keyboard players buzz melodies on kazoos, and cymbals bring rhythmic madness—all before the snares climb towering props for one final, epic feature. With flying sticks, surprise samples, and over-the-top stunts, this show is pure entertainment, ending with a literal trust fall… straight Over the Top.
