One is a motif-based show that explores and stretches every possible idea from the concept of "one." The production opens with a solo tenor performer who ends his moment with a spock roll while standing on one leg—establishing the motif from the very first note. The show continues to feature one-handed split section moments in the battery, mirrored by similar challenges in the front ensemble. At its heart is a virtuosic marimba solo performed center floor, which transitions into unique battery moments where performers use various brush implements, highlighting individual expression. The closer features a bottom bass drum groove that gradually builds into a powerful full ensemble moment—underscoring the idea that while individuals can make a difference, together we can change the world. Musical source material includes Kanye West's "Only One" (additional licensing required).
