What happens when the world around us begins to twist and distort? Bend Don’t Break is a wild and playful journey through flexibility, tension, and resilience. The show opens with a crisp, straight-laced arrangement of Cody Fry’s I Hear a Symphony, setting the stage for a world of structure and order. But soon, things begin to shift—melodies stretch, harmonies warp, and trombones wail with expressive pitch bends as the scenery starts to curve. The energy escalates with an original composition intertwined with elements of John Mackey’s Strange Humors, bringing an exotic and off-kilter groove that hints at the chaos to come.  

 

As the bending reaches its extreme, we teeter on the edge of breaking with a powerful, emotional arrangement of Coldplay’s Fix You, stretching the limits before pulling back just in time. The intensity surges with a thrilling percussion feature by John Max McFarland, where the drumline locks in with the trombone section for an electrifying moment of controlled mayhem. Finally, the show spirals into its grand finale—Cody Fry’s I Hear a Symphony returns, but this time it’s been completely bent out of shape. The once-straight melodies are now warped and wacky, a dizzying reminder of the unpredictable nature of balance. And just when it seems like we might break, everything snaps back into place—upright, strong, and ready to take a bow.
